About RareJule Vintage

RareJule Vintage Studio in Evanston, IL

The shop's philosophy is based on Yves Saint Laurent's observation:

The most important thing about a dress is the woman who wears it.

Understanding that looking good comes from self-knowledge and self-love is the driving force behind my business. I search for vintage finds that express personal style, historic interest, and aesthetic value - not trends.

INSPRIRATION THROUGH THE GENERATIONS

Julia Marchenko with Great Grandmother Basya Berkman

My great grandmother, Basya Berkman, was a tireless Old Country matriarch who inspired me to always look outside the box to reinvent myself. A Holocaust survivor, legendary dollar-stretcher, and lifelong seamstress, she nurtured my childhood dreams. I operated my vintage business for eight years under her name (Basya Berkman Vintage Fashions) and my Etsy customers often mistook me for “Basya” which was a wonderful compliment. RareJule Vintage is the latest manifestation of this sartorial adventure! In addition to selling online, I take clients by appointment in my home studio in Evanston, just north of Chicago, where tea, books, and music round out the atmosphere.

Spot the young blonde in my listings? That's my teenage daughter - brightening up my world daily and pushing me towards seeing clothing from her generation's eyes.
