A Y2K Escape with Sex and the City Fashion

After years of indifference/resistance, I finally watched the entire series of Sex and the City.

Massively hyped shows and movies tend to push me away, and if my daughter didn't keep insisting on sharing the experience with her, I would have gone to my grave not realizing just how fashionably interesting (among other things) the show was.

And trust me, sharing the couch while witnessing Samantha Jones' (ahem) escapades takes mother-daughter bonding to an entirely new level.

The clothes really were amazing, and I happen to currently have a load of dresses, coats, and separates that not only personify that era (1998 - 2004), but capture Carrie Bradshaw's style

So let's kick off this little escape from the Weltschmerz of the world with words of wisdom from the very quotable Samantha:

I don't believe in the Republican party or the Democratic party.
I just believe in parties!

These Y2K pieces from my shop can work for pretty much any of the four friends,
but I see Miranda in the purple Zac Posen, Carrie in the yellow print Pucci,
Samantha in the Armani skirt (with a strapless or one-shouldered fitted top),
and Charlotte in the DVF at lower right!

ZAC POSEN  - for Charlotte!

JASON WU (Charlotte or Carrie if you add a large flower to it!)

PUCCI (Samantha)

CHLOE (Miranda)

Let's recreate a few of the looks more directly!

Our gray Burberry skirt would be a great choice to pair with a long vest offset with a belt (top right).

Be inspired by Carrie's quirky, pink prom dress look  with this blue version from the 80s - also strapless but in bold floral print.

This Diane Von Furstenberg dress from the early 2000s captures the vibrancy and silhouette of the silk print Carrie wears below, from the fall of 2001, John Galliano for Dior.

Our green Yves Saint Laurent dress echoes the simplicity (but with a lot more lux) of the white Halston frock she wears in one of the later movies

And finally, I love this 70s raccoon fur coat that just came in, as an homage to the vintage one that Carrie pulls off with such non-chalance flair!

style!

Let's close out this fashion party for now with one from Carrie Bradshaw herself:

"Sometimes we need to stop analyzing the past, stop planning the future, stop figuring out precisely how we feel, stop deciding exactly what we want, and just see what happens."
