August '24 New Dresses & Jumpsuits + Five Fashion Morsels for this Month

Welcome to August '24

Brigitte Bardot and Jacques Charrier on their honeymoon in St Tropez, 1959

I've decided to take August off from pop-ups.

As many are on vacation and I am processing a very large influx of high-end vintage fashion (super excited to share soon!), it feels good to focus on my online shop and to host many of you here in the home studio for buying appointments. The easiest way to book is simply to email me about it and I will reply with scheduling options.

In the meantime, below is a snippet of some of the new items for this month, and my usual monthly roundup of interesting fashion happenings, ideas, and people that have caught my attention.

NEW ITEMS FOR AUGUST

* FIVE FASHION MORSELS *

1. Fashion exhibit on my radar
How has this museum escaped my notice until now? Especialy as I've been to Paris twice now?!

Palais Galliera Musee de la Mode is on point with the city's Olympic fever with their timely exhibition: Fashion in Motion #2. The accompanying catalog looks divine as well.

2. New Book I'm excited about
Fashion First by Diane Keaton with a forward by Ralph Lauren. Like many, I first noticed Keaton as the dapper and whimsical Annie Hall back when I saw the film as a teenager. I was already wearing hats, but she helped me take them to another level.

3. Designer I am currently researching
Jacques Heim
He is one of the many great Jewish designers who barely survived the Holocaust, and then made it big in the second half of the twentieth century. Ursula Andress wore one of his dresses at the Cannes Film Festival in 1965, and he is credited as the proto-inventor of the bikini, called the "Atome" !

His pieces are quite RARE! In my fourteen years of business, I have only had two. One was from my very first year on Etsy, when my friend, Ellen, would model for me while our littles played a few feet away, while the other is from this year as I currently have a gorgeous olive green Jacques Heim frock in my online shop!

4.  New fashion term for me -
minaudière

Solve the riddle with these clues:
  • In 1716, the author Mary Wortley Montagu used the word in a letter, providing the first documentation of the term.

  • The modern version was invented c.1930.

  • Most women who are into fashion have at least one, most often their grandmother's.

  • It doesn't play well with a cell phone.

  • one of the best I've ever seen is in my shop currently!
