June 2024 Fashion Morsels

1.  In the summer of '68 Paris was on fire with student street protests.
I like Wes Anderson's visualization of it in his masterpiece The French Dispatch, which requires multiple viewings.

In contrast, the belle monde was unphased and haute couture thrived in all its complicated contrast. Nina Ricci staged a viewing of her current collection in the sumptuous halls of Versailles and the unapologetic decadence is a   --- Visual Feast --- that is other worldly.

As the commentator says: "The good things in life remain".

2. Inspired by the above dichotomy, I decided to play around with A.I. to see what a modern interpretation of such a contrast might look like - in one frame.

What do you think? My prompt was quite detailed, but I couldn't get the main characters to smile, no matter what I did (what does "it" know that I don't?).

Email me your thoughts! Creepy or cool?

3. The Met's current exhibition at the Costume Institute is Sleeping Beauties and aims to capture your attention through all the senses. If you can get yourself to New York City, this is not to be missed!

Watch the curator, Michael Bolton, eloquently lure you into this world.

4. I recently acquired a treasure trove of antique handbags from the turn of the 20th century and have slowly been adding them to the online shop.

The purses are works of art so if your  pesky phone is too big for them, I suggest you:

- live on the edge and leave it at home (highly recommend)

- display the purse in a stunning array on your wall!  Here are some decorating ideas .  Pinterest was invented exactly for this, IMO!
