July '25 Fashion Morsels

July's brilliance seeps through the blinds as I write this. Keeping a big, vintage apartment cool for three people working in different rooms is quite the challenge—especially without central air!

I'm doing my first (real) Insta Live Sale tomorrow, July 2nd, and am back at Andersonville on the 20th as part of their annual vintage market (details below).

I am also deep into planning a larger amount of fall pop-ups than I normally do -- all along the north shore from Lake Forest to Winnetka (more soon).

In addition to adding new items weekly to the online shop, I'm sourcing rare clothing weekly, and continuing to find ways to make this newsletter relevant and interesting for you. Keep your eyes out for me fixating on the confluence of two my favorite loves: costume and art history!

But for now...

July's Fashion Morsels

 Fashion of the Moment
Valentino Vertigineux Spring/Summer 2025
From feathers to crochet, capes to drop waist velvet gowns - the couture collection exquisitely drips with historical referencing at a level of craftsmanship that is unparalleled.

If you can't get enough Valentino (as is my case), check out the latest Ready-to-Wear line to immerse yourself in more ecstasy of detail of poetry, and echoes of bygone eras.

What Else Caught My Eye

Marvelous Ms Maisel Costumes Get a Book
Donna Zakowska, the costume designer takes you into her process and the period photographs that inspired her.

French Law to Curb Fast Fashion
Environmental consciousness or protection of its greatest import. Why choose when you can have it all.

Famous Artists Walk the Runway
AI induced acid trip that needs to be experienced. My favorite looks are Rembrandt's and Warhol's.

Fashion as " hidden patterns in the portrayal of nature."
A mind bending deep dive into the concept of scaling as applied to fabric and design.

Museum Dedicated to Fashion Photography
New to me,  but it was only founded in 2022 and situated in a small town in Spain!
Its current exhibition on David Bailey
(who captured the style of 60s London) looks impressive.
