This is a 1940s mail-order unprinted tissue paper sewing pattern distributed by the Chicago Tribune Pattern Department, design number 2493. This pattern contains pieces and instructions to construct two variations of a misses' afternoon dress. The first view features an asymmetric, tiered wrap-effect skirt with a draped sarong-style overlay, a fitted bodice with modest shoulder gathers, a high neckline, and short cap sleeves. The second view features a pleated, diagonal surplice bodice treatment with a clean-line straight skirt. Pattern UNCUT/never used.

**From the 30s through the 50s, regional newspapers like the Chicago Tribune did not manufacture their own sewing patterns. Instead, they partnered with central mail-order syndicates.
