The Vintage Hermès “Ex-Libris” Silk Scarf in yellow is a collectible carré originally designed in 1946 by Hugo Grygkar—one of Hermès’ most influential artists and often called the father of the Hermès scarf. The Ex-Libris motif features a symmetrical layout centered on a medallion inspired by classical bookplates (ex-libris), surrounded by four horse-drawn carriages based on pieces from Émile-Maurice Hermès’ private collection. Produced in 100% silk twill with hand-rolled edges.

This design has appeared in several colorways, with the yellow version being considered rarer among collectors. Early editions may lack modern markings like the copyright “C,” adding to their vintage appeal. Grygkar rarely signed his work, relying instead on clear, balanced compositions like this one. Because of its early production date, heritage symbolism, and the designer’s historical significance, the vintage Ex-Libris scarf—especially in a distinctive colorway such as yellow—is highly sought after.
