The vintage Hermès "Ex-Libris" silk scarf in yellow is a highly collectible carré originally designed in 1946 by Hugo Grygkar—one of Hermès' most influential artists and often called the father of the Hermès scarf. This piece dates to the 1960s-1970s production era, a period when Hermès used lighter-weight silk that is characteristic and authentic to vintage pieces from these decades.

The Ex-Libris motif features a symmetrical layout centered on a medallion inspired by classical bookplates (ex-libris), surrounded by four horse-drawn carriages based on pieces from Émile-Maurice Hermès' private collection. This design became the foundation for the iconic Hermès logo we know today.

Produced in 100% silk with hand-rolled edges. The yellow colorway is considered rarer among collectors, with this design having been produced continuously from 1946 through the 1970s before being reissued in 1996, 2004, and 2007. The "HERMÈS PARIS" label without a copyright symbol confirms this as a genuine 1960s-1970s piece—not a modern reissue.

Hugo Grygkar (1907-1989) was a Polish-French artist who created the very first silk carré for Hermès and became the house's most prolific designer. He rarely signed his work, relying instead on clear, balanced compositions like this one. The lighter silk weight of this piece is period-correct and a marker of authenticity for 1960s-70s Hermès scarves, as the heavier silk twill did not become standard until the late 1970s-1980s.
